Illustrators are commissioned to produce still drawings for use in advertisements, books, magazines and newspapers

A consultant Illustrator was once paid a whooping £400,000 for the design of the logo for the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Most illustrators are self-employed and run their own studios or work from home. They are normally commissioned directly or via an agent to produce drawings for newspapers, magazines, books, and catalogues.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

  • general administration
  • negotiating contracts
  • promoting and running the business
  • producing final illustrations.
  • researching and making contacts
  • drawing rough sketches for approval
  • undertaking relevant research
