Apam grew up in Aba, Abia State before moving over to Lagos where he joined the Pepsi Football Academy.

Onyekachi Apam Career

Apam began his career with the youth team of Enugu Rangers in 2004. He joined the youth club of Nice in France in 2005 before he was promoted to the senior team in 2006 where he played until 2010. He transferred to Frnch club side Stade Rennes in summer 2010. He suffered from a long spell out of the side through injury, but finally made his debut for Rennes in January 2012, almost a year and a half after signing. On 19 September 2014, it was announced that Apam signed with Seattle Sounders FC just before the MLS roster freeze. He was released without making an appearance on 5 December. 

Apam was part of the Nigeria U20 team that came second at the FIFA World Cup in 2005. In 2008, he played at the Beijing Olympic games with the Nigeria U-23 team, winning the silver medal. He made his senior debut with the national team in 2007.
