Mohammed Danjuma Goje was born into the Goje family on October 10th, 1952. His mother’s name was Hajiya Zainab and he is a native of Pindiga, in Akko Local Government Area of Gombe State, Nigeria.

Goje holds a Grade 2 Certificate from Bauchi Teachers College. He graduated in 1977. Eventually, he enrolled into Ahmadu Bello University where he is recorded to have graduated with a B.Sc in Political Science in 1978.


Mohammed Danjuma Goje Career

Goje is a successful public administrator. He served as the Secretary of The National Institute of For Medical Research in Yaba, Lagos from 1984 to 1989. Then he went on to Zaina Nigeria Limited. He named it after his mother. He ran the company as the chairman and MD for ten years. 

He made his first major foray into politics after acquiring a degree in Political Science. Hence, he contested and won a seat as a Member of the Bauchi State House of Assembly. Here, he served a single term from 1979 to 1983. The incursion of the military obviously paused his political career. He nevertheless picked up his ambitions in 1999. He unsuccessfully vied for a senatorial seat. However, he was later made minister of State, Power and Steel. He served under President Olusegun Obasanjo from 1999 to 2001.

Goje made history in 2003 by becoming the second democratic governor of Gombe State. In fact, he was re-elected in 2007. He therefore completed his eight-year tenure in 2011. He immediately after his tenure contested for a senatorial seat. He won straightaway still on the platform of the PDP. He represents Gombe Central District in the Nigerian Senate. He however defected with ten other senators to join the APC in January 2014.


Mohammed Danjuma Goje Personal Life

Goje is a faithful Muslim as his name implies. He is of the Sunni faith. He married two wives; Hajiya Fatima Yelwa and Hajiya Aisha Munira and has nine children and more than a dozen grand children. In October 2017, his wife and former first lady of Gombe State, Hajiya Fatima Yelwa, died while receiving treatment at a hospital in the United States. Accordingly, her corpse was flown back home to Gombe. She was buried in accordance with Islamic rites. She had six children and ten grand children altogether.
