Femi Falana was born on May 20th, 1958, in Ilawe, Ekiti State, Nigeria. He is an erudite lawyer and human rights activist.

Falana was a student of St. Michael’s Primary School, Ilawe, from 1963 to 1968. After his primary education, he attended Sacred Heart Catholic Seminary from 1971 to 1975. From 1977 to 1981, he studied at the Obafemi Awolowo University.
Falana began his legal practice in 1982. In the year 1991, he floated his own Chambers which he then called Femi Falana but later changed to becom Falana and Falana Chambers, having his wife Funmi as a partner. Having excelled in his law practice, he became a Senior Advocate of Nigeria in the year 2012.
Falana is a known human right activist in Nigeria.He became a human rights defender long before his appointment as a lawyer. It was in 1983. There was a situation where students were illegally detained. The man took bail for them. He also contested and lost the governorship election of Ekiti State in 2007 on the platform of National Conscience Party, a party he served as National Chairman in 2011.
Falana is married to Funmi Falana, who is also a human rights activist. The popular Nigerian rap singer Falz is his son. At first, Falana’s wife wanted to choose a future occupation for their children. But they stood their ground and did what they had passion for. After a while, Funmi realized that she was not right. She even advised other parents not to put pressure on their children.
In 2014 a misfortune hit his famil when his son-in-law, Juwom Majekodunmi, died while on holiday in Dunbai with his wife, Folakemi Falana Majekodunmi, a lawyer and CEO of Mobile Market.
