Joseph Benjamin was born on November 9th, 1976 in Benue State, Nigeria, to a Kogi State indigene father and an Anambra State mother.

Benjamin attended primary school in Benue State and completed his secondary education in Lagos State. He holds a Diploma in Computer Science from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. At the age 12-years-old, he appeared in the television program “Tales by Moonlight” on NTA.
Before he broke into the Nigerian entertainment scene, Benjamin was once a bus conductor. He made his first screen debut appearance in a popular television program titled ‘Tales by Moonlight‘ where he acted as a homeless child. His first movie was in 1993, titled Crossroads. He grabbed a remarkable role as the co-star of Mahmood Ali-Balogun’s movie ‘Tango With Me‘ alongside Nollywood megastar actress Genevieve Nnaji in 2011. Some of his movies are Tango With Me, Mr. & Mrs, and Married But Living Single. He has co-hosted with Adaora Oleh the MTN Project Fame West Africa since 2009.
He got married in 2004 and they were blessed with two children , a boy and a girl. He and his wife are however, now separated. In a recent interview with BellaNaija, Joseph says he is still committed to his kids and would continue to love and care for them. “I’ve been separated for a year now but we still keep a good relationship, and our separation was a mutual agreement. She is a good woman but I could not go on with the union anymore seeing the foundation it was built on was untrue. I have two wonderful children – a ten year old daughter and a seven year old son. They are an integral part of my life; their mum and I have a very good arrangement on how to balance their lives and make sure that psychologically they are stable and unaffected by our separation,” he said.
