Tolu Ogunlesi was born March 3rd, 1982 in Edinburgh, Scotland, to Nigerian parents from Abeokuta, Ogun state. He is a journalist, poet, photographer, fiction writer, and blogger.

Tolu spent a greater part of his early life in Lagos, NIgeria. He graduated from the University of Ibadan in 2004 and obtained an MA in creative writing from University of East Anglia, UK, in 2011.
Ogunlesi’s fiction and poetry have been published in The London Magazine, Wasafiri, Farafina, PEN Anthology of New Nigerian Writing, Litro, Brand, Orbis, Nano2ales, Stimulus Respond, Sable, Magma, Stanford’s Black Arts Quarterly and World Literature. e is the author of a collection of poetry, Listen to the geckos singing from a balcony (Bewrite Books, 2004) and a novella, Conquest & Conviviality (Hodder Murray, 2008).
His fiction and poetry have been published in The London Magazine, Wasafiri, Farafina, PEN Anthology of New Nigerian Writing, Litro, Brand, Orbis, Nano2ales, Stimulus Respond, Sable, Magma, Stanford’s Black Arts Quarterly and World Literature Today, among others. He has authored two books including Conquest and Conviviality (Hodder Education, 2008) – young adult fiction, and Listen to the geckos singing from a balcony (Bewrite Books, 2004) – poetry.
He worked as a features editor and editorial board member of NEXT newspaper. From 2014 to 2015, he also worked as a West Africa editor for The Africa Report magazine. He was a Naij.com columnist and was appointed to the role of Special Assistant on Digital/New Media by President Muhammadu Buhari on February 18th, 2006. Prior to his appointment, he was the Strategic Communications Adviser to Nigeria’s Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment. He was also a contributor to Tell Magazine, The Guardian (Lagos), Daily Independent (Nigeria), New Age, Forbes Africa, The Guardian (UK), Financial Times, HuffPost, Business Day (Nigeria), and Premium Times.
Ogunlesi and his beautiful wife, Kemi Agboola, got married on Saturday, November 29th, 2014, in Ibadan. The traditional marriage ceremony took place a day before on Friday, November 28th, 2014, also in Ibadan, Oyo state.
