Ifeanyi Lawrence Ugwuanyi was born in Enugu metropolis, the capital of present-day Enugu State, on March 20, 1964, to parents who hailed from Orba in the present Udenu Local Government Area of the state.

After his primary education, Ugwuanyi passed the entrance examination and subsequently enrolled into St Theresa’s College, Nsukka, where he completed his secondary education before proceeding to the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) where he obtained a B.Sc. degree in Finance and later a M.Sc. degree in Marketing (Public Relations).

Ugwuanyi holds an MBA degree in Finance and another MBA degree in Accountancy from Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT).

Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi Career

Before venturing into politics, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi was the General Manager of Premier Insurance Brokers Limited, Enugu and was the president of the Rotary Club of Emene in Enugu State.

In 2003, he was elected into the Federal House of representatives on the platform of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), representing Igbo-Eze North/Udenu Federal Constituency. He served for two terms and exited the position in 2011.

As a member of the House of Representatives of Nigeria, he served as the Chairman, House Committee on Marine Transport.

Following his party’s primary election of 8 December 2014 in Enugu, Ugwuanyi successfully won PDP’s gubernatorial ticket and contested in the April 2015 general elections which he won.

He was sworn in as the current governor of the state on May 29, 2015.
