Stephen Odey was born in Agege, Lagos on January 15th, 1998. Born into a family of eight, Odey opted at a young age to play football professionally. He currently plays as a striker for Swiss side FC Zurich where he became the third Nigerian player to feature for the team after Ike Shorunmu and the late Rashidi Yekini. He has also played twice for the Home Eagles team.

Odey grew up in Agege, a suburb of Lagos State, where he learnt to play football on the streets. He attended Answar-ul-Islam Primary School and Diary Secondary School in Agege. When he turned 11 years, he took one of his brother’s boots which he used until his mum got him his first set of boots. He soon got the opportunity at Diary Secondary School to captain his school team which took part in the second edition of GTBank Principals Cup, getting to the final of the tournament. The team eventually won the cup and Odey was selected into the GTBank 13-man All Star Team of the Year. That competition helped him to make the limelight and the courage to move on.
In 2014, Mountain of Fire and Miracles FC (MFM FC) of Lagos came for Odey. He played his first season with MFM in 2015 and scored five goals in the same season of the Nigeria National League, helping the club to gain promotion into the elite Nigeria Professional Football League. The following season, he also scored nine goals to become the club’s top scorer. In the 2017 season, he scored a total of 18 goals helping the team finish in the third place.
In October 2017, he completed his move to Swiss side, FC Zurich, after his International Transfer Certificate was released. He signed a four year deal with the club. In the same month, he marked his European debut with a goal for his new team.
In 2016, he received his first invitation to the home-based Super Eagles.
As the second to the last in the family, Odey's mum mother helped him in achieve much success life. Through her groundnut business in the Agege Market and her meagre earning she helped him attend trainings and matches. He lost his dad in 2011. His role modls are Delima Ronaldo and Luis Suarez.
While playing in the NPFL, Odey won the League Bloggers Player of the Month Award twice in January 2017 and March 2017.
