Chimaroke Nnamani was born on May 30th, 1960 into the Aristocratic family of the Nnamanis of Agbani Nkanu West local government area of Enugu state, Nigeria. He is a grandson to one of the most influential British District Officer and secretary to a former federal minister Igwe J.U Nwodo, and a cousin to the former Nigeria attorney general and Minister for Justice, Justice Augustine Nnamani JSC. His grandfather, D.O Nnamani, had a towering influence, crowned by unrestricted generosity that makes his life time exhibitions so tantalizing to the entire people of Nkanu.

A politician, Chimaroke was Governor of Enugu State from 1999 to 2007 under the People's Democratic Party (PDP), and a Senator representing Enugu East Senatorial District between May 2007 and May 2011.

Chimaroke Nnamani Early Life

Born in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, he attended the Methodist Primary School, Agbani Road, Enugu, and the College of Immaculate Conception (CIC), also in Enugu. He is a graduate of the College of Medicine, University of Nigeria (Enugu Campus) where he studied between 1977 and 1983.


Chimaroke Nnamani Career

Chimaroke was the governor of Enugu State from May 1999 until May 2007. He was elected as the senator representing Enugu East Senatorial District from 2007 to 2011 on the platform of the People's Democratic Party (PDP). He ran for re-election on the ticket of the newly registered People for Democratic Change (PDC) but surprisingly lost in the re-scheduled election of April 9th, 2011, leading to mass boycott of subsequent elections by majority of his constituents who apparently lost faith in the electoral process. 

On May 26th, 2011 Chimaroke, Jacob Nwatu and four private companies were arraigned before Justice Benedict Agbata of the Enugu state High Court on 15 fresh charges bordering on alleged embezzlement of state funds and obtaining money by false pretence between August 3rd and November 28th, 2002.

On Thursday February, 27th 2014, Chimaroke the Enigma, displayed another mythical charisma as he formally returned to the People Democratic Party at his Agbani ward, a party he was a founding father and installed the present Governor Sullivan Chime and all the national and state assembly members; To many it was an amazing understanding the resources and tactics the state government had employed for the past seven years to rubbish his legacies and stop every move by Nnamani to take back his deserved place in Enugu state.

In February 2018, a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has, Tuesday, dismissed the corruption charges against the former governor. The ruling delivered by the judge, Chuka Obiozor, struck out the charges for lack of “proper charges” before it.


Chimaroke Nnamani Personal Life

Chimaroke was married to his wife, Nnenna Agnes Nnamani, until her death on September 4th 2015, in Orlando, Florida, United States, following complications from sickle cell disease and cerebral aneurysm. They had two children together; a son and a daughter.

Chimaroke's academic honours include a D.Sc. (Honoris Causa), University of Nigeria; Distinguished Fellow of the Nigerian Law School, D.Sc (Honoris Causa), Babcock University, Illisan Remo, Ogun State and Honorary Fellow of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria, Ijanikan, Lagos.
