Chet Bashari Anekwe is an actor and filmmaker who was born in Lagos, Nigeria and raised in New York City. His work spans Hollywood, Nollywood and the New York Theater.

While growing up in New England Chet the indigene of Anambra State, Nigeria, attended elementary school with his brother and were the only two black kids in the whole school. For the first and second grades, he fought physically almost every day as he was expriencing racism from his colleagues. In his third grade, there was a white teacher who was appalled at the level of racism in the school and she put an end to it. Some of those kids who were mean to him later turned out to be his friends many years later.
Chet's work spans Hollywood, Nigerian cinema and New York theater. He can be seen in episodes of "New Girl" on FOX. As well as short films, "Witch Hunt" and "Castor Oil", by award winning directors Solomon Onita and Puja Maewal, he has starred in movies that include Phat Girlz, On Bended Knees, When One Door Closes, 30 Days, Tobi, Heaven’s Hell and Busted Life amidst others. He stole the hearts of Nigerian movie lovers playing the role of Ike in the flick, Unwanted Guest.
Chet has given outstanding performances in“Phat Girlz” with Monique. He has also received many rave reviews for his theater performances. He He and the cast of “Real Black Men Don’t Sit Crossed Legged On The Floor” won the 2006 Viv Award for Best Ensemble cast, where the New York Times said watching Anekwe was “exciting”. He also received rave reviews for roles such as Mark Antony in “Julius Caesar set in Africa” and Paul Bratter in “Barefoot In The Park”. Anekwe received a New York City Viv award nomination Best Actor for his portrayal of Joseph Cinque in “Chap Am So (The Amistad Victory)”.
On Sunday July 20th, 2013, the Unwanted Guest star tied the knot with his fiance Rebekah Walker in Detroit, Michigan. het and Rebekah held their intimate affair at the Longacre Mansion in the presence of close friends and family including Nollywood practioners Stella Damasus, Daniel Ademinonkan, Robert Peters and Chuks Ajoku.
In March 2015, the couple welcomed their first child together almost 2-years after their wedding ceremony in the United States of America. A boy, he was named Bashir Grayson Anekwe.
Chet was nominated for African Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) 2012 – Best Actor in a Leading Role for Unwanted Guest. He also won the 2012 Giama award for Best Actor in a Diaspora Film for Bianca and the 2012 AFCA award for Best Actor in a Diaspora Film for Unwanted Guest.
