Timi Dakolo was born in Ghana to a Nigerian father, Bayelsa native and Ghanaian mother, Norah who died when he was thirteen. He was raised by his grandmother Aleni Dakolo and his aunt, Susan Larry in Port Harcout. He credits his grandmother, with whom he had a very special relationship with as his early singing teacher.

He started singing in church at the age of twelve, wining a local talent hunt G.E FACTO which was held in Port Harcout in 2005. He went on to win Idol West Africa on the 26th of May 2007. Before Idol, Timi was a student of Communication in the Univeraity of Port Harcout. He received a Masters certificate in Song writting from Berklee College of Music, Boston, Masachusetts on July 29, 2015.
After wining Idols west Africa, he took home many prizes including a recording contract with Sony BMG which was however, never realised. Timi Dakolo released his first single comprising three songs in October 2009 and in 2011, released the song 'There is a cry'. He is currently signed with Lone Records/ Wow muzik. He is one of the Judges on the Voice Nigeria.
Timi Dakolo married Busola Dakolo in 2012 and they have three kids- Alex, Zoe and Hallel.
