Uru Kalanwa Eke was born on October 11th, 1979 Newham, East London, UK. She is an indigene of Mbaise in Imo state, Nigeria. Uru is an ctress, film maker, writer, entrepreneur and IT consultant.

Uru Eke Early Life

Eke had her primary education at Galleywall Infants School in London. Thereafter, she moved to Nigeria with her family and had her secondary education at Baptist Girls College, Lagos. Soon afterwards, she returned to the UK and enrolled into the Lewisham Southwark College in London. After college, Uru studied University of Greenwich in London, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Business Information Technology. 


Uru Eke Career

Immediately after leaving school, Uru began her career in IT working as a Business Acceptance Test Analyst with some of the UK's leading financial institutions such as Zurich International, Legal and General, HSBC, Halifax and Lloyds TSB. While in her 9-5 job, She took up vocational training courses and improved her craft and is now a seasoned, trained Actor, event host and Associate producer of Dream Walker’ and the soon to be released film ‘Remember Me’. 

Uru fully began her acting career in 2011 with a London based acting group called 'The association of multinational performing Artists' in the UK, where she featured in a number of stage plays and in house productions. She has also acted in a number of films namely 'Forgive me father', Ebony, Lucky joe, Widows men, African Soldier, The return of Ogidi, friends in Love, Save the Prince, The Gift, Timeless Passion, Strive, Darkside, Last flight, Weekend Getaway, One Last Word, The Duplex and Being Mrs Elliot, and others.

In September 2012 CNN's Vladimir Duthiers conducted an interview with Uru for their world wide 300million viewership program 'Inside Africa' where she was asked about her journey into acting, the 2012 Nollywood blockbuster release 'Last Flight to Abuja' where she played chief air hostess and her plans for the future. In July 2013, she was invited to the Gambia to represent Nollywood as part of celebrations of International Youth Day 2013, the African Youth Panel organized the Africa Youth Charter Ambassador program- an extensive training platform aimed to duly equip its Ambassadors for the crucial youth activity ahead, and grooming “young voices” that would be heard and respected all over the world. With notable African figures of diverse backgrounds including academicians, civil society experts, entrepreneurs, art managers and politicians in attendance. The 4-day meeting organised in collaboration with the Children and Community Initiative for Development (CAID), with support funds from the Roskilde Charity Society of Denmark was an eye-opener to the potential that can be duly utilised in creating a more vibrant youth-drive in the continent, channelling all the necessary resources- both material and intellectual- to building a strong network of young-changers.

Aside acting Uru has co-hosed a number of events such as the 2014 Nollywood Movie awards along side Dakore Egbuson, Gideon Okeke and Denerele Edun. As well as the closing ceremony for the African International Film festival alongside Ramsey Noah, Gideon Okeke and Yvonne Ekwere, thereby ensuring a steady growth in her career in Entertainment.

She also founded the Chime For Art Foundation which was raised and established by her quest and burning desire to positively affect society and be a change agent using film.


Uru Eke Personal Life

Uru is currently not married. According to her, she does not desire that her career be distracted by marriage. She believes marriage can't stand in her way of soaring higher. "I do not know what people know about me, but I describe myself as a fun-loving, social butterfly that sees what she wants and goes after it. I am in a relationship and he has not complained about my job or hinted about it affecting our future. About marriage standing in the way of my career, I’ll cross that bridge when I get there," she said.
