Raphael Adeola Alabi was born on April 14th, 1941, in his hometown of Akure, Ondo state, Nigeria. He was a pastor, engineer, industrialist, businessman, and former Chairman of Guinness Nigeria Plc. and former Chairman Taijo Wonukabe Limited.

Ralph Alabi Early Life

Born into an Akure royal family, Alabi grew up with his great-grandmother, Queen Faromibi Adesida, one of the wives of Oba Afunbiowo Adeside, the former Deji of Akure. After his primary education in 1956, he had his secondary education at St. Joseph's College, Ondo, between 1957 and 1961. He thereafter, proceeded to the Technical College, Ibadan (now Ibadan Polytechnic), where he received a diploma in mechanical engineering. He further graduated with a Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the Hendon College of Technology in London (now Middlesex University).


Ralph Alabi Career

Dr. Alabi joined Guiness Nigeria Plc in 1964 and achieved a number of firsts in his remarkable career. He was the first Nigerian to be appointed to the positions of Chief Engineer as well as brewery manager in Guinness Nigeria. He began his career in Guinness Nigeria Plc as a Technical Trainee in 1964 and rose through the ranks to become the Chairman of Guinness Nigeria Plc. He left the company in June 2009 after 13 years as chairman during which the business experienced great transformation as a result of his commitment and good leadership.

After leaving Guniess, Dr. Alabi set-up an engineering consultancy business called Maystar Brothers Ltd. He was also the chairman of a frontline marketing communications firm known as Taijo Wonukabe Limited. He was a former chairman of manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), Ikeja Branch, the Finance and Establishment Committee Chairman of MAN National Council, and a fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE). He was a National Vice-Chairman of Science, Engineering and Technology Summit of the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology and a member of the Governing Council of Lagos State Polytechnic.


Ralph Alabi Personal Life

Ralph got married to Rachael Oluwayemisi Alabi (nee Olueafemi) while studying in the UK. They had seven children; Olufunmilayo Atkins, Adekunle Alabi, Adeniyi Alabi, Folaranmi Masha, Yetunde McEwen, Olusayo Alabi, and Adenike Alabi. Also as a pastor of the Merciful God Ministry, Dr. Alabi died in his Ikeja, Lagos state, home on November 11th, 2009, and was buried in his hometown of Akure.

  • Alabi was a member of several business and professional organisation such as COREN
  •  In 1990, he was given the chieftaincy title of Aruwajoye of Akure.
  • In 2003, he was also honoured with a National merit award Officer of Order of the Niger (OON) by President Olusegun Obansonjo
  • On Decmber 11th, 2005, The Federal University of Technology of Akure conferred on him the award of doctorate degree (Honoris Causa) Doctor of Engineering
