Chief Emmanuel Oyedele Ashamu was born on August 14th, 1924 to Chief Agbankin Ashamu, a Yoruba Chief from Oyo State, Nigeria. He was a wealthy farmer, pharmacist, estate owner and businessman.
Emmanuel Oyedele Ashamu would have been 100 years old, if he were alive today. May his soul rest in peace.
Ashamu had his primary education at Durban School in Oyo State. After that, he had his secondary education at the Grammar School, Ilesha, Osun State. He proceeded to Yaba Higher College where he graduated in 1951 haven studied Pharmacy.
In 1951, Ashamu was appointed Pharmacist at the Department of Health in Lagos. He engaged highly in pharmaceutical business from 1954 to 1957. He began his business, Ashamu Group of Companies, where he served as Chairman from 1960. He also worked with the Nigerian Hoechst Limited, was Director at Oke-Afa Farms Limited and also Director, Nigerian Explosives and Plastic Company.
A vast business man, Ashmau also served as Director at the Ikeja Real Estate Limited. He was a member, Metropolitan Club, Lagos, member, Nigeria Institute of Food Science and Technology and member, Nigerian Institute of Management. He was also a popular member of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria.
A devoted Christian, Ashamu was married and had numerous children as well as grandchildren. He died on August 20th, 1992.
He held the traditional title of Maye of Oyo in Oyo State.
