Hon. Henry Ofongo

Hon. Henry Ofongo Early Life

Hon. Henry began his education at Primary School I Ibadan St. Port Harcourt< Rivers State in 1976 and obtained his First School Leaving Certificate. In 1983, Hon. Henry enrolled at Community Secondary School, Igbomotoru in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State from where he obtained his Senior School Certificate in 1988. In 1990 the enrolled at Rivers State College of Education, Port Harcourt and graduated in 1994.

Hon. Henry Ofongo Career

As a public officer, Hon. Henry first served as a Councillor at Southern Ijaw Local Government Area until 1997. He was an administrative secretary at the People's Democratic Party’s office in Bzyelsa State from 2001 to 2002. From 2002 to 2003, he served as Chairman of Southern Ijaw Local Government Area. He was also a Youth Leader of the Bayelsa State Chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) from 2003 to 2005. 

Hon. Henry worked with the Bayelsa State Government from 2007 until 2010 when he decided to contest a seat in the Federal House of Representatives. He was elected in 2011 to represent Southern Ijaw Constituency under the platform of the People's Democratic Party (PDP). He was re-elected in 2015 for a second term. He is the Vice-Chairman of the insurance and actuarial matters committee. Other committees he serves on include Rural Development, Gas Resources, Emergency & Disaster Preparedness, and Agricultural Production & Services. His legislative interests include environmental rights, oil & gas, human rights, education and health.
