Ibrahim Gobir

Gobir attended the Following Institutions, Sokoto Teachers College, where he obtained a Teachers Grade ii Certificate in 1972, Birnin Kebbi Secondary School , where he got his West Africa School Certificate. 

Gobir holds a master’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Detroit in the United States, and a doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering and Energy from Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University in Bauchi, Nigeria. He is a Chartered Engineer and a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical Engineers (UK) and of the Nigerian Society of Engineers.

Helso holds an MBA from the University of Liverpool.

Ibrahim Gobir Career

Senator Gobir began his career with the Ministry of Communication, and then joined the Nigerian Television Authority in Sokoto. He became a Director of Union Bank of Nigeria in 2002. He also became Managing Director of Taifo Multi Services Limited, Abuja. Before entering politics he was chairman of the Cement Company of Northern Nigeria in Sokoto.

Prior to becoming a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, he was the Deputy Governor of Sokoto State from 1999 to 2003. In the 2007 elections, he became the Executive Governor, of Sokoto State.

In the 2015 elections, he contested for the seat of the Sokoto East Senatorial District on the Platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and was declared winner.

Gobir is the chairman Senate Services Committee as well as the vice chairman, Trade and Investment Committee (Senate).
