Uche Lilian Ekwunife (nee Ogudebe) is a Nigerian female politician and former senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial Zone. SHe was born on February12, 1971 at Nri, Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Uche had her primary and secondary school educations at Onitsha. After which she obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Education/Accounting from the University of Calabar. She also acquired a Masters in Business Administration from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State.

She has an Honorary Doctorate degree in Public Administration.

Lilian Ekwunife Career

Before her foray into politics Ekwunife worked in various top roles as banker. She worked with Royal Merchant Bank, Equitorial Trust Bank and then Standard Trust Bank where she rose to the position of an Area Manager.

Hon. Uche Ekwunife served for two terms as a member of the House of Representatives representing Anaocha/Njikoka/Dunukofia Federal Constituency. In her second term in office she was the Deputy Chairman, House Committee on Public Accounts, House of Representatives.

In 2010, she contested in the Anambra State Gubernatorial elections on the platform of the Peoples Progressive alliance(PPA) but was unsuccessful.

She again sought for the seat in 2013 but could not secure the ticket of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) at the party primaries, where she lost to Willie Obiano.

During the 2015 National Assembly elections Uche Ekwunife contested for the senatorial seat of the Anambra Central Senatorial District and was declared winner.

However on December 07, 2015, the Court of Appeal sitting in Enugu sacked Senator Uche Ekwunife after she was dragged to the court by Chief Victor Ume of the All Progressives Grand Alliance. Ume had earlier lost his appeal to the Anambra State Elections Tribunal in Awka. The Appeal Court described the tribunal’s ruling as a perverse judgement, which cannot stand and ordered INEC to conduct a fresh election within 90 days.

Uche lost to chief Ume of APGA in the election re-run.

Hon. Uche Ekwunife is married to Chief Larry Ekwunife, a successful business man from Nri community in Anaocha Local Government Area, Anambra State and is blessed with children.
