Aliyu Akwe Doma was born on September 1st, 1942 in Doma Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, Nigeria to parents from the Alago ethnic group.
Aliyu Doma would have been 82 years old, if he were alive today. May his soul rest in peace.
Doma completed his primary education in Doma Junior Primary School and Lafia Senior Primary School respectively between 1951 and 1957. He proceeded to Government Secondary School, Katsina Ala and the Higher Teachers’ Training College, Gombe where he obtained the Grade II teacher’s certificate in 1963. He attended the University of Ibadan from 1964–1966 and Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria in 1976. He obtained his Master’s in Public Administration degree from Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma in 2002.
Doma served as a civil servant in the old Plateau State civil service between 1976 - 1983, where he rose to the position of a Permanent Secretary. He was also a former deputy governor under the late former Governor Solomon Lar in the old Plateau State in 1983. As a businessman, he was Chairman of Oriya Group of Companies in 1984, Chairman of Integrated Tourism Consultants in 2003 among others.
He served as Governor of Nasarawa state from 2007 – 2011 as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and lost a second term bid in 2011 to Umaru Tanko Al-Makura.
In Nasarawa State, the children of Doma are hardly known, except for the eldest, Umar Doma, who appeared in the early days of the administration only to disappear for his business in Abuja, and now Accra in Ghana, and Dubai, in the United Arab Emirate (UAE), according to speculations.
Doma died in an Israeli hospital on Tuesday March 6th, 2018 and was buried on Sunday March 11th, 2018 in his hometown, Doma, Nasarawa State.
