Mike started showing interest in acting right from his primary school days and was fond of writing drama scripts. He had his secondary school education at Federal Government College, Taraba and Archbishop Aggey Memorial school, Lagos and studied Accounting at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State.

Mike worked as a banker before becoming an actor. He was buying fuel at a gas station when he met with Ruke Amata who introduced him to a movie producer Jetta Amata, who advised him to pursue a career in acting. He joined Nollywood professionally in December 2003 when starred in his first movie, Broken Marriage directed by Dickson Iroegbu.

Mike became famous after starring in one of the best selling Nollywood movie, Critical Decision. He has featured in several movies including Endless Passion, Broken Marriage, Beyond Reason, Critical Decision, and Unforeseen.

After a traditional marriage ceremony in May 2010, Ezuruonye married his wife Nkechi Nnorom on Saturday November 13th, 2010. The couple have a handsome son, Reynold Nkembuchim, born in Canada on October 1st, 2011. 

In 2010 he signed a multimillion naira endorsement deal with telecom giant GLO and his contract was renewed several times. In 2014 he also signed another huge endorsement deal with telecom giant Airtel said to be worth millions of naira. He is currently one of the richest and most influential actor in Nigeria with an estimated net worth of $3.5 million.
