Chuma Mmeka James Jnr (known as T-char) was born on June 21st, 1975 to Enyi Jim I. Mmeka and Lolo Josephine Chinyere Mmeka of Alaenyi-Ofeahia, Amaigbo in Nwangele Local Government Area of Imo State, Nigeria. He is an inspiring national award winning Nigerian poet and author of the well reviewed 'Echoes of the Mind ...my book of standard poems'.

Chuma Mmeka Early Life

Mmeka grew up in South East Nigeria and attended Ngwa High School, Abayi-Aba, Abia State. He became a victim of child abuse with his parents' separation in 1976. Brought up under his mother, he suffered humiliation at different times in the hands of abusive maternal relatives. Being the first son of a polygamous family, he was further branded a 'prodigal' by some members of his paternal family for preffering to be with his mother. His formative life no doubt, is reflected in his writing style and social approach. Born a Christian, he dubs himself 'freethinker' and 'realist'.


Chuma Mmeka Career

Mmeka is a multi-faceted artist and activist with a background in psychology and in law. He is a corporate administrator and charity engineer with a voluntary verve to assist vulnerable African children. He opposes injustice and hates to pretend to press or please anybody.  He is a humanitarian expert working primarily in the area of child protection and is currently State Coordinator of the Association of Orphans and Vulnerable Children Non Governmental Organizations in Nigeria (AONN). He is a distinguished member of the UNICEF sponsored Imo Child Protection Network, and also Founder of 'The Safe Child Project'.  His work in various parts of Africa has led to the effective promotion of underprivileged people's rights. 

Multi-talented, Chuma Mmeka is an established movie actor in the Nigerian film industry He has also built a fast rising profile for himself in the corporate management and image making world. He is committed to social development and charity work, and publicly declared in 2009, the channeling of 30% of his profits from acting and writing to humanitarian endeavors concerned with the protection of and provision for orphans and vulnerable Nigerian children through The Safe Child Project.

In 2015, he had three of my poems in the anthology. They include “A People’s Culture”, “My Ekpe Dance”, and “Once Upon A Christmas Day”. They each talk about a child’s experiences in the village for the first time during a festive period. The poems reveal a lot about the scenery, cultures and social interactions among the people of a traditional Igbo society during the annual mass return season. In 2016, apart from his contribution to the group poem  "Peaceful conflict in the land of Utopia", his main poem “Never Forget” made it into the anthology. The poem is a flashback to the carefree lifestyle of a hard-working, successful fun-loving bachelor, and the attendant regrets in mature life for a past foolishness.

Mmeka is happily married to Nikky Mmeka and blessed with lovely kids. In May 2018, he lost his mother, Lolo Jossy Mmeka.
