Ayodeji Richard Makun (popularly known as A.Y.) on August 19th, 1971 in Warri, Delta State, Nigeria. He hails from Ifon, Ose local government in Ondo State. He is a multi-award-winning Nigerian actor, comedian, radio and T.V presenter, writer, director and MC.

The oldest male child from a family of seven, AY was was born and bred in Warri, Delta State. He graduated from Delta State University after a whopping 9 years. But even at the time of graduating, he already made a mark among his friends as a comedian and entertainer. In 2018, he revealed why he spent almost a decade in university. According to him the demise of his father and mother left him with a lot of responsibilities that he had to shoulder. In his words, "In December 1999 when my dad passed, It was difficult to take over his position as the first son. It became even more difficult when my mum decided to join him in no time. Embracing the reponsibilities of taking care of my four sisters and two baby brothers wasn’t the best message to preach to a waiting landlord whose rent must be paid in due time. The combination of being a big brother and father came with a price that kept me in Delta State University for 9 years as a student."
Generally seen as the Godfather of Nigerian Comedy, Ali Baba employed AY as a Personal Assistant and Event Manager. The skills Ayo acquired working for his former employer was probably what shaped his approach to the comedy industry. With his popular event, Open MIC Live, AY was able to harvest fresh talent fresh talents for the comedy industry. Popular acts like Seyilaw and Akpororo were shot into the limelight after winning AY's Open Mic event. Actions like these are only bound to create a growing number of loyalists for him, and in the near future, its possible that we'll soon begin to see AY being referred to as a 'Godfather' of Comedy.
AY wrote the column, Going AY-Wire as a guest columnist with The Sun Newspapers, (Nigeria’s most circulated National Daily) and also wrote another monthly column titled Jokes Apart in Gbenga Adeyinka’s monthly comedy journal, Laffmatazz. The multi-talented comedian also presented The AY Live on The Morning Drive every Friday from 6am to 10am on Rhythm 93.7 FM, Lagos. AY rose to fame after performing at the “Night of a Thousand Laugh” a comedy show hosted by Oppa Williams. He is currently the host of the AY Live shows, AY comedy skits and AY Cribs which he usually publish on YouTube. He is very skillful, creative and talented.
AY has become the ‘father’ of many upcoming acts and established acts that are doing well in the industry, through the monthly AY’s Open Mic Challenge that held every third Sunday, at The National Theatre and later at The marquee of Federal Palace Hotels and Casinos, Lagos. The AY Show, arguably the best Comedy Show on Nigeria TV, shows on many terrestrial television stations across the country including Africa Magic.
AY is currently the CEO of Corporate World Entertainment and a UN Peace Ambassador.. His first movie “30 days in Atlanta” was directed by a Hollywood movie director, Robert Peters. The movie featured Nollywood, Hollywood and Ghanaian celebrities. The movie was shot in Lagos, Accra and New York. s an investor in stand-up comedy, AY has influenced many upcoming comedians through his AY “Open Mic Challenge” which brought comedians like Akpororo and Elenu to limelight.
AY got married to Mabel Makun in 2008 and they have a daughter together called Michelle. His net worth is estimated to be in the range of approximately $7 million.
He won several awards such as the most fashionable student on campus (1999 and 2000); best show-biz promoter (2001); the most celebrated student on campus (2001) and the Jaycee club socio-personality award (2003). In 2008, AY won six awards, making him one of the most accomplished entertainers in Nigeria. The awards include; Comedian of the year: Diamond Awards for Comedy, Comedian of the year: Teens Favorite, Comedian of the year: MBG Abuja Merit Awards, Comedian of the year: National Daily Awards, Comedian of the year: Arsenal Award for Excellence and Comedian of the year: Mode Men of the year Awards. In 2009, AY won the Best Comedian in Nigeria at the City People Entertainment Awards and in 2010, Comedian of the year: Nigerian Entertainment Awards. He also won the Most Creative Comedian in Nigeria at the Nigeria Entertainment Awards in 2013.
