Monalisa Chinda Coker was born on September 13th, 1974 in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria to an Ikwerre father and an Igbo mother.

The first born in her family of two sons and four daughters, Monalisa had all her education in Port Harcourt. She attended Army Children’s School GRA for Primary and then Archdeacon Crowther Memorial Girls' School, Elelenwo, for Secondary. She obtained a degree in Theatre Arts from the University of Port Harcourt.
With an impressive body of work over the decades, Monalisa has been widely described as Nollywood’s top talent for her unique ability to interpret complex roles effortlessly. A graduate of Theatre Arts, Monalisa starred in her first major movie, Pregnant Virgin, in 1996. She has since featured in over 200 movies, which are aired across the globe, till date. She has participated in different film workshops and festivals including; Georgia Tech Film Festival and workshop in Broadcasting (CNN Tour) 2011, Export of film- Nollywood Roadshow in collaboration with Nigerian Export Promotion Council Kenya 2011, BOBTV Festival (Monalisa presented a thesis on “When Talent is not enough”) 2011, Zuma Film Festival Abuja (Women in the media) 2012, the Sithengi Television and Film Festival, a market for content and ideas, in Cape Town, South Africa.
Her immense contributions to Nigeria’s movie industry have been recognized by renowned brands, attracting her various appointments as brand ambassador of giant telecommunications company Globacom, Vita500, and the United Nations to name a few. She is the producer and host of the You & I with Monalisa TV Talk-show and founder of the Arise Monalisa Foundation (AMF), an Africa-based not-for-profit organization renowned for inspiring hope by empowering young people and creating opportunities for the less privileged across the continent.
Monalisa was married to her long time boyfriend Dejo Richards, the marriage was blessed with a beautiful kid named Tamar Chinda. They divorced in 2009. After the annulment of her first marriage, she got married to Victor Tonye Coker in 2016, whom she is still with till date.
Chinda has won several awards including Nollywood@20 E-Golden award for Outstanding Character Actress, NEGA 2012 Germany, Afro-Australian Music and Movie Award for Most Outstanding Actress 2010, African Film Awards UK 2009, and several others. In 2011, she was crowned the Face of Port Harcourt – Carnival Queen, in her hometown, Rivers State, Nigeria and in 2012, she became one of the first of four Nollywood actors to be featured on the cover of Hollywood Weekly Magazine. She's also been awarded with the City People Movie Special Recognition Award.
