Mary Uranta Early Life

Uranta’s childhood experience was mostly from Port Harcourt where she grew up. She has 4 step brothers and 7 biologically related siblings. She attended Sacred Heart Nursery and Primary school and Holy Rosary Girls Secondary school, both in Port Harcourt. She grew up with her siblings and her parents who were not very buoyant but had just enough to meet the family needs.

Uranta got into the University to study something Theatre related but ended up studying Secretarial Administration. She participated in the Miss Niger Delta Contest while she was in the university and was the first runner-up.

Mary Uranta Career

After graduating from the university, Uranta dived straight into the Nigerian movie industry, Nollywood in 2000. Her first movie was a minor guest role appearance in the movie Girls Hostel. She acted alongside Uche Jumbo in the movie. She continued getting minor roles like that but kept at it notwithstanding. It was not until 2006 that her face became popular for her role in the movie Secret Mission where she acted as the younger sister of Ngozi Ezeonu. 

After that movie, she started getting better offers. She took a break from her career to study at the London School of Arts Academy. She has featured in several other Nollywood movies which include Paul and Silas, War of Roses, Silver Spoon and Church Committee before taking a break in acting to complete her education. Her other Nollywood films include Tea or Coffee, Tears of a Princess, Baits of Doom, The Professionals, Real Passion, Mistress, The Darkest Link, Love Doctor, Critical Passion, Pradah, Secret Shadow and Blood Game, amongst others.

She is a peace ambassador for the UN and the Niger Delta. She now holds a postgraduate diploma in Theatre. She has also launched a film production company, 50th Academy, to contribute her quota for the growth of the industry. She also has a foundation aimed at catering for the welfare of the less privileged in Opobo.

Mary Uranta Personal Life

Uranta is unmarried. She is a religious person and says she will most likely conclude her life as a prophetess. She lost her father, Pa Uranta, in March 2018.
