Chikaodinaka Sandra Oduah was born in Ogbaru, Anambra state, Nigeria on March 14th, 1983. She is a journalist based in Abuja, Nigeria, and covers human rights, culture, conflict and development in sub-Saharan Africa.

Oduah moved to Metro Atlanta area of Georgia at two years old and has been a reporter since high school days. She graduated from Georgia State University with a bachelor’s degrees in both anthropology and telecommunications. Afterwards, she went to Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism for her Master of Science degree in broadcast journalism.

In her still-blossoming career, Oduah has worked as a commercial photographer in Atlanta, a television news reporter and documentary feature producer in Nairobi, and a reporter and television news producer in Nigeria and Dakar, Senegal. Her written and filmed work—which predominantly focuses on human rights, culture, conflict and development in Africa—has been published in Al Jazeera, Quartz, The Associated Press, The Atlantic, CNN and The New York Times, National Geographic, NPR and more.

Her extensive coverage of the 276 chibok schoolgirls kidnapped by Boko Haram became an international headline. She made her Al Jazeera onscreen debut when Al Jazeera broadcast a documentary in November 2015 about breast cancer which she reported alongside Ghanaian undercover investigate journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas.

In 2017, she spoke at the African Students For Liberty West African Regional Conference and received a Human Rights Advocacy Award from the General Council of Spanish Lawyers. As the new year unfolds, Oduah’s commitment to “capture the stories of black folk,” as she says cheekily in her social media bio, will remain constant.

Oduah won the Trust Women "Journalist of The Year Award" from the Thomson Reuters Foundation in 2014.
She has also won the Future Awards Africa Nigeria Prize for Journalism, the 2015 African Story Challenge award by the African Media Initiative and the International Center for Journalists
In September 2016, she became the first recipient of the Young Reporter for a Sustainable Future Award from the International Center for Journalists in partnership with the United Nations Foundation.
She won the Dow Technology and Innovation Reporting Award at the 2016 CNN MultiChoice African Journalist Awards
She was considered one of YNaija's "Nigeria's 100 Most Inspiring Women."
