Ngohide Ruby Ann GyangGyang, better known by her stage name Ruby Gyang was born in Jos, Plateau State on November 4, 1983 to a family of five kids (three boys and two girls).
Her father was a professor of Business Studies at the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, while her mother was a Deputy Registrar in the same institution.
Ruby Gyang is 41 years old.
She attended Ahmadu Bello Primary School, Zaria but completed her primary education at Command Primary School in Jos. She moved to Estate Secondary School, Makurdi, completing her secondary school education at Bethany Christian Academy in Plateau State. She studied Economics at the University of Jos.
Ruby started singing in the church choir at age five. Growing up with gospel music, she became obsessed with it spending hours listening to music. Her mother always knew that was what she was good at, so she supported her but her father wanted her to go for something more stable.He came around though and has been very supportive of her career.
The first song Ruby ever recorded was in 2005 and it was titled, 'No More'. However, music started professionally for her when she had a group of friends who were singers, and rappers, including MI, Jesse Jagz and Ice Prince. They eventually started their own group, called the 'Loopy Crew'. They were in school back then, which kept them in Jos most of the time but they were often recording and performing in states like Abuja, Jos, Kaduna, Bauchi, among others. In the long run though everybody in the crew got signed to bigger record companies.
Her first single was the song 'OK' in 2011 then there was 'Down' in 2012 before her third single 'Good man' in 2014.
Her breakthrough came in 2014 when she released 'Good Man' and for the first time got major airplay, performed on big stages, and got nominated for the biggest awards.
Ruby Gyang has worked and collaborated with artists such as M.I, Jesse Jagz, Show Dem Camp, Ice Prince and Bez and is currently signed to Chocolate City after Loopy Crew's merger with Chocolate City in 2015.
She took a year off, precisely 2016, to focus on creating music and when she came back in 2017, she released two singles: 'Kale Ni' and 'O Holy Night' which is a Christmas song.
In 2018, she dropped a new single, 'Oya Dance'.
She has been nominated for several awards including -
Ruby Gyang who is focusing on self love is a single mother of one and as the primary role model to her daughter tries to avoid scandals. The father of her child is Jesse Jagz.
The songstress who describes her style of music as RnB Soul Fusion stated in an interview that what makes her most happy is the fact that she can make people happy through music.
