Enitimi Alfred Odom popularly known by his stage name, Timaya or Egberi Papa 1 of Bayelsa or Dem mama soldier was born on 15th August 1980 in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria. He is a native of Odi in Bayelsa Sate and the youngest child in a family of 15 children to a banker father and a trader mother.

Timaya attended Assemblies of God Nursery and Primary School in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria. His secondary school education began at Nkpolu Oroworukwo Secondary School in Port Harcourt and was completed at Ikeja Grammar School in Lagos State, Nigeria. He returned to Port Harcourt to study Banking and Finance at the University of Port Harcourt but had to drop out in his second year because he could not meet up with the educational requirements.
Growing up, Timaya was known by his peers for his zero tolerance to bullying.
Timaya is singer, songwriter, stage performer and a recording artiste who came into the spotlight after the release of his debut hit single “Dem Mama” which also appeared on his first debut studio album, "True story" in 2007. He said that the single was inspired by the 1999 destruction of his town, Odi in Bayelsa state, Nigeria. He started his career as a backup vocalist for Eedris Abdul Kareem’s band. He soon set out on his own getting signed by K-Solo and under him, went to release his hit single.
Timaya who is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of the “Dem Mama Soldiers” record label released his second studio album, “Gift and Grace” in 2008 to critical acclaim. In 2009, he partnered with Black Body Entertainment to release his third album, “De Rebirth” with its lead single “Plantain Boy” topping charts including the MTV music charts. He revealed that his single, "Plantain boy" was inspired by the period in his life when he had to hawk plantain to survive and as a result of this album, he was nominated for the Artiste of the year award in 2009. In 2011, he released “Long Life N Prosperity” and in 2012, he released “Upgrade” which spawned hits singles like “Bum Bum”, “Sexy Ladies”, and “Malonogede” maintaing his status as one of the celebrities Nigerians love to listen to. He released his most recent album, Epiphany in 2014.
In 2010, Timaya collaborated with Kefee in her single "Kokoroko" which went on to win the Best Collaboration of the Year at the 2010 Headies Awards.
In 2011, Timaya was appointed Peace Ambassador by the Interreligious and International Federation for World Peace (IIFWP).
