Tiwatope Savage popularly known as Tiwa Savage was born on the 5th of February, 1980 in Ikeja, Lagos. She is from Isale-eko, Lagos, Nigeria
Tiwa Savage is 44 years old.
When she was 11, Tiwa left Nigeria for London. While in High school in London, she was a very active member of her school’s Orchestra band, where she played the Trombone eventually going from High school to the University of Kent where she studied Business Administration. After her education, she started working at The Royal Bank of Scotland. She later went back to Berklee College of Music from where she obtained a degree in professional music.
Tiwa launched her career doing back-up vocals for a number of artistes including Kelly Clarkson, Mary J. Blige, Andrea Bucelli, George Michel, Blu Chantell and Chaka Chan when she was 16. She co-wrote the track "Collard Greens & Cornbread" off Fantasia Barrino's Grammy-nominated album, “Back to Me”
In 2004, she participated in the X Factor, UK while still at Berklee College, getting to the final 24 before she was evicted.
Her debut into the Nigerian music scene was with the single, ‘Kele Kele love' which was a chart topper and which was followed up by ‘Love me’ and since then, Nigerians cannot seem to get enough of Tiwa savage
On July 3, 2013, she released her debut album, "Once upon a time" with hit singles like "Without My Heart", "Ife Wa Gbona", "Folarin", "Olorun Mi" and "Eminado. On December 19, 2015 she released her second album R.E.D with singles, "My Darlin'", "African Waist" and "If I Start to Talk".
Tiwa savage has written songs for A-list artistes like Kat De Luna, Fantasia Barrino, Mya, Jacko and Monica and performed background vocals for Whitney Houston’s 2009 album, "I Look to You" and has collaborated with several top Nigerian artistes including; Patoranking, Flavor N’abania and Waje
She is currently signed to Don Jazzy’s Mavin records which she joined in 2012 following a partnership with her own entertainment Company, 323 entertainments. She has since then featured on songs such as Dorobucci, Adaobi, Looku looku and Jantamata, alongside other artistes of the Mavin Dynasty.
In December 2011, she co-hosted the second season of Nigerian Idol alongside IllRymz. In November 2012, Tiwa collaborated with Waje, Praiz, Timi Dakolo and Pamela Egoh on the Ovation Red Carol Theme Song
Tiwa made her debut into the movie industry with the Nigerian version of the film, "For Coloured Girls" acting alongside Joke Silva and Ireti Doyle
She is endorsed by Pepsi and is the first African female to be associated with the brand. She is also endorsed by Forte Oil, MTN and Maggi and has a songwriting deal with Sony/ATV Music Publishing. She has been involved in many Youth empowerment and Breast cancer screening projects across Nigeria.
She was married to Tunji Balogun who was also her manager and they have a son, Jamil Balogun together but following accusations and counter accusations, the marriage seems to be over as she allegedly filed for divorce from him. She is rumoured to be in a relationship with Wizkid.
