Abiodun Koya is 43 years old.
Abby became interested in music when she was six, playing the violin and singing classical music at church and during birthday celebrations at the encouragement of her father. At 8, she was already writing poems and songs.
In 2001, she left Nigeria for the United States where she studied Business Management at University of the District of Columbia, Washington, D.C. She went on to study Music for her Master's Degree at Catholic University, Washington. D.C.
Abiodun Koya is a Nigerian gospel singer, opera singer, actress, songwriter and poet who is based in the United States. A highlight of her career was an invitation to a black history month performance at the White House.
She was featured in the Americolor Opera Alliance’s presentation of LaRoche, an original opera about the only black male passenger on the ill-fated Titanic, where she assumed the role of “Madam Mae/Top Lady.”
Abiodun Koya recently dropped her Pop single, ‘Flourish Me’ which is her first single outside Opera having released three albums under the Opera genre. She has vowed to remain the mouthpiece of her heritage through her music and voice. In 2009, she released a compilation of her love poems called "The Mood of a Princess".
At the special invitation of Bishop T.D. Jakes, she has also shared her music ministry at the Potter’s House in Texas and Colorado, followed by another performance at Rev. Franklin Richardson’s Grace Baptist Church in New York.
She has a charity foundation, the Courtesy Foundation, which raises scholarship funds for girl orphans in Africa. She uses her musical platform to shed light on issues affecting African children and women and she holds master classes for choirs and college students as well as musical workshops, and empowerment programs for youth.
She is married and loves recording movie sound tracks as well as writing story lines for plays and comedies and her favorite instruments: the pipe organ and the trumpet.
