Lord Rumens was related to business moguls, Molade Okoya-Thomas (nephew), and Mobaji Bank Anthony (cousin). He served as the President of Lagos Lawn Tennis Club in Onikan from 1966 to 1975. In 1971, he brought the likes of the late Arthur Ashe and Stan Smith to Nigeria for a tournament.

Lord Rumens was one of Nigeria’s fathers of tennis. A member of many elite clubs in Lagos and beyond, the business mogul has a vast estate and properties around Lagos and beyond. He died on November 14th, 1998, and was survived by 7 children and 14 grandchildren.

Fifteen years after his death, his estate has become a subject of contention between his children and trustees appointed to manage the estate. Mr. Babatunde Alabi, one of his children, who is spearheading the war to take over the control of their father’s estate, instituted a legal battle with Investment and Trust Company Limited, a subsidiary of Bank of Industry (BOI).
