Honourabl Owoidighe Ime Ekpoatai was born in 1966 in a village called Edeobuk located in Eket Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria to a disciplinarian father/ headmaster and a caring mother, late Elder and Deaconess Samuel Akanimo Edem. She is an accountant and politician currently the Member representing Eket, Onna, Esit Eket and Ibeno Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.

Honourable Ekpoatttai had her basic education the St. Paul's Primary School, Ikot Ibiok-Eket Local Government Area where she obtained her First School Leaving Certificate (FSLC) in 1974. Thereafter, she proceeded to the Government Secondary School, Afaha Eket for her Secondary Education and obtained her West African Examination Certificate (WAEC) in 1980. In 1986, she acquired a Diploma in Theology from The Bible & Missionary Theological College, Ikwa - Ikot Abasi Local Government Area. This equipped her for the numerous missionary journeys in Child Evangelical Fellowship across the length and breadth of villages and towns in the Northern and middle belt States in Nigeria imparting principles for building effective and rewarding children ministry to children teachers. In her quest for knowledge, Honourable Ekpoattai, proceeded to the University of Uyo, Uyo in Akwa Ibom State where she studied Accounting and graduated in 1995. She further obtained MBA in Accounting from the Imo State University in 2003.
Honourable Ekpoatttai began her career in the Sub Treasury Department of the Akwa Ibom Stat Ministry of Finance. From there, she moved to Exxon Mobil Eket where she served until her resignation to contest for the Chairmanship position in her Local Government Area in 2008.In 2012, she was elected to the leadership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) as the State Treasurer of the party.
In March 2015, Honourable Ekpoatttai contested and won the ticket to represent Eket, Onna, Esit Eket and Ibeno Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives under the PDP. At the House, she serves in the Women Affairs and Social Development Committees. Her legislative interests are environmental protection, legal matters, girl advocacy, oil & gas, stiffer penalty for rape, among other social issues.
In October 2018, Honourabl Ekpoattai lost the PDP nomination for the Eket, Onna, Esit Eket and Ibeno Federal Constituency. She lost to Pat Ifon who polled 284 votes against her 146 votes.
Honourable Ekpoattai is a devote Christian and serves as an ordained Deaconess of the Qua Iboe Church Nigeria. She is married to Barr. (Dr) Irne Ekpoattai, an accomplished lawyer, former Commissioner and a public commentator. The marriage is blessed with four children.
