The Federal Medical Centre Azare occupies a very unique position in the community. It serves a great number of indigenous patients and others from neighbouring states as far as Taraba State. This is mostly because of modern equipment, infrastructure and outstanding commitment and dedicated professional service by its personnel.

The University Teaching Hospitals [Reconstitutions of Boards] Act, Cap 462 on 6th June, 2000. It inherited the premises of former General Hospital Azare with most of its staff on 21st October, 2000. The formal transfer of the staff was concluded in June, 2001.

The Centre is a parastatal under the Federal Ministry of Health which inherited the infrastructure and equipment of the former General Hospital, Azare during its take-off in 2001. The infrastructure was in near total collapse due to long usage as it has spent over sixty years in existence.
