Mikel Ndubusi Aguche was born on May 27th, 1993 in Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria. The Nigerian international footballer currently plays as a midfielder for National team of Nigeria and Bursaspor on a loan from Porto.

Mikel Agu's family name is Aguche, but shorterned to Agu. His parents are from Enugu and he grew up in Benin City with his siblings, two brothers and four sisters. He schooled at Ayenuga Primary School and Kiddies College, both in Benin. At his tender age, he played for an academy in Benin, Megapp along with Elderson Echiejile and Issac Success. He took part in the 2009 Copa Coca-Cola, where he was chosen as the best player of the tournament, attracting the interest of scouts. After the tournament, he joined the youth academy of Porto.
Agu began his career with the Dragon Force and played until 2010. He then played a couple of years for FC Porto U-19 team. On July 1, 2012, he started playing with Porto B and made his debut against Gil Vicente in a victory 2-1 replacing Josue and became the first Nigerian player to play for the club. For the Porto B, Agu scored 2 goals in 69 appearances until 2015. Following his brilliant performance, he was promoted to the senior team of Porto by the Paulo Fonseca, manager. Agu was then sent on loan to Club Brugge for 2015/16 season where he made only two appearances before ending his loan contract. Along with his team, he has been honored with Belgian Pro League(2015-16). He was then loaned to Vitoria Setubal for the 2016-2017 season. He was the member of the team that reached the semi-final in the Taca da Liga. For the team, he played 27 games before the end of the season. On August 7, 2017, Agu was loaned to Bursaspor for the 2017-2018 season. Till now, he has scored 2 goals in 11 appearances.
Agu was named as the provisional squad for the 2016 Summer Olympic. On June 1, 2017, he made his international debut under the coach, Gernot Rohr in a win over Togo 3-0. So far, he has earned 4 caps for the nation. Agu's style of play is described to have similarities with former Chelsea Player, John Obi Mikel. He was called up on November 2017 to play a match against Algeria.
Agu got married to Omoriege Ogochukwu Henrietta on June 17th, 2017 in Delta State. His wife is a graduate of theatre arts the Delta State University in Abraka. The couple is blessed with a son, Stefano. Agu's current market value is estimated at €2 million.
Agu was awarded the Most Valuable Player (MVP) at the 2009 Copa Coca-Cola Tournament.
