Nikki was raised as an only child by her mother, Patricia, who was a single mother, but also has seven half-siblings – her father’s children. One of her half-brothers, Amiku, now lives in the UK. Her father, Sam), was the editor of the Vanguard newspaper in Lagos and her parents met as journalists. Her parents however separated when she was still young.

Nikki stayed in Lagos until she was five where  her mum was involved with Ophelia, her fashion magazine. Towards the end of her parent's breakup, she moved to London, UK with her mum. While in Antigua, she attended Frensham Heights in Surrey and London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) and subsequently performed with the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC).

An English television, stage and film actress, Nikki's theatrical credits include Welcome to Thebes (National Theatre); Twelfth Night (Bristol Old Vic); World Music (Crucible Theatre, Sheffield and Donmar Warehouse); Top Girls (Oxford Stage Company); A Midsummer Night's Dream, The Tempest and The Servant of Two Masters(Royal Shakespeare Company); Doubt: A Parable (Tricycle Theatre).

She appeared in the BBC adaptation of Andrea Levy's award winning novel, Small Island, broadcast in December 2009. In addition to her numerous television roles and the RSC, she has performed onstage with the National Theatre and the Oxford Stage Company, amongst others.

Whilst on tour with the RSC in Japan, she met her husband, actor Geoffrey Streatfield. They got married in 2003 and separated seven years later.
