He served as Vice President and Head of Africa Trade and Corporate Finance for Sub-Sahara Africa for Citibank since 1990's. He executed trade and corporate finance deals in West and Southern Africa. He has been a Non-Executive Director of Dangote Flour Mills Plc. since December 10th, 2015. He also serves as Chairman of the Board of Sustainability Finance Real Economics SICAV-SIF. He serves as Non-Executive chairman of Cellular Systems International (trading as Wari), non-executive chairman of Africa Strategic Impact Fund. 

Ekpe served as the Chairman of the Board at Atlas Mara Limited until December 1st, 2016. He is a Chairman at Oceanic Bank International (Nigeria) Ltd., a Non-Executive Chairman at Africa Strategic Impact Fund and a Non-Executive Chairman at Cellular Systems International (Senegal). He is on the Board of Directors at Crown Agents Bank Ltd., Dangote Flour Mills Plc. and Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority.
