Sir Mobolaji Bank Anthony was born on June 11th, 1907 in Kinshasa, Zaire of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. His father was Alfred Bank Anthony of the Brazilian Quarters in Lagos Island, Lagos State, Nigeria. Sir Anthony was a businessman, investor, industrialist and philanthropist.

After few years in Congo, the young Anthony moved to Lagos, Nigeria for his education. He attended the following institutions; St Peter's School Faji, Methodist Boy's High School, Ijebu-Ode Grammar School, CMS Grammar School, and Baptist Academy, all in Lagos.

After his Secondary education, Anthony began working as a Postal Clerk at the Department of Post and Telegraph. He worked there from 1924 to 1932, then worked biefly with his fathet in Lagos, before he became a proprietor of M. de Bank Brothers. He was also into general merchants and was chairman, Law, Union and Rock Insurance Company of Nigeria Limited. He was chairman, Aero Contractors of Nigeria Limited, Borini Prono and Company (Nigeria) Limited, Holman Brothers Nigeria Limited, Noil Limited, Foremost Diaries Nigeria Limited, Weide and Company Nigeria Limited and Motor Parts Industry Limited.

Sir Anthony was also director at different firms. Some of them include; Almel Nigeria Limited, British Insulated Callendars Construction Nigeria Limited, Calabar Veneer and Plywood Limited, and Cross River Mills Limited. Others include Kajola House B and R Limited, Mobil Exploration Nigeria Limited, Nigeria Cinemas Limited, Triumph Enterprises Limited and Kurama Holdings Limited. He also worked with the Lagos Stock Exchange where he became chairman and was a fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Management.

Mobolaji was married to Olamide Adeshigin, also known as Lady Bank Anthony, and they lived in Ikoyi, Lagos. As a sports lover, Sir Anthony was president, West Africa Cricket Conference, member of the Yoruba Tennis Club, and member of Lagos Race Club. He loved to work, read and dance. He died on May 26th, 1991. The Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way linking Ikeja and Maryland in Lagos was named after him.

• In 1986, he was made honorary fellow at the Post Graduate Medical College of Nigeria
• He was honorary patron, Nigeria Academy of Science, in October 1988 
• He was also a fellow, Institute of Directors
• He received traditional titles including; Chief Ba'loro of Lagos in 1968 and The Otunba-Lofin of Ijebuland in 1988 
• In 1979, Sir Anthony was given the National merit award of Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON)
• In 1957, he was made Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE)
• He was honoured with Stella dclla Solidarieta Italiana de la Classe, Italy, in 1957
• He received the Knight Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (KBE) in 1963 
• He was also awarded Queen Elizabeth II Coronation Medal in 1953
• In June 1989, he received the Most Excellent Order of Merit of the Republic of Italy (Grande Ufficiale)
• He was conferred with Honorary Doctor of Laws (Hon. LL.D) University of Ibadan in 1968
• He was also given the Honorary Doctor of Letters (Hon. D.Litt), Ahmadu Bello University, (ABU), Zaria in 1988
