Tariq Hanna was born in Nigeria on July 15th, 1968. He is an Executive Pastry Chef and partner of the Sucre dessert restaurant, an artisan dessert and confection experience which he co-founded in 2007.

Growing up in Nigeria, Tariq’s family lived a mere stone’s throw away from the national cocoa processing plant where aromas of roasting cocoa beans always filled the air. Raised in British boarding schools, Tariq moved to the United States to pursue a degree in architecture at Lawrence Technological University in Detroit, Michigan. He soon found himself enrolled at Oakland Community College, a culinary school where he found his passion for the art of confection.
After finishing school in 1993, Tariq launched his own family-operated pastry and catering shop called The Northville Gourmet. In 1999, he was made the first casino pastry chef in Detroit.
He joined MotorCity Casino in early 2000 and worked there for seven years. Falling in love with New Orleans, Tariq joined forces with restaurateur Joel Dondis to found Sucre in 2007. In 2012, Tariq was also appointed to Secretary Hillary Clinton's Diplomatic Culinary Partnership.” As this great city goes through a modern day renaissance, Sucre aims to define dessert and the confection experience.
He has featured on TV shows such as on TLC's Ultimate Cake Off episode 1 called Shark Summer, and episode 4, Fourth of July. He also starred in the Food Network Challenge called Incredible Edible Mansions.
Tariq lives in his New Orleans home with his wife, Jennifer, children and three French bulldogs.
