Hajia Muinat Bola Shagaya was born on October 10th, 1959 in her hometown of Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria to Emenike Mobo a Nigerian Public Servant and Adut Makur a Sudanese seamstress. She is an International Business tycoon, fashion enthusiast and political icon.

Hajia had her secondary education at Queens School Ilorin. She had her tertiary education at Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, and Armstrong College in California, where she studied economics and accountancy. She also attended a number of local and international seminars and workshops, including Harvard Business School in the United States.
Bola Shagaya began her career at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) where she worked at the Audit Department. After leaving CBN in 1983, she joined the commercial business sector. She started with the importation and distribution of photographic materials, namely, Roll papers, Films and chemicals under the trading name, Bolmus International Limited in Nigeria. She also introduced the Konica brand of photographic materials into the Nigerian market and the West African coast.
In 1997, Hajia registered Fotofair Nigeria limited and opened a photo laboratory service unit on Victoria Island Lagos, Using 100% Japanese technology under the Konica brand name. Today, Fotofair has over thirty photo laboratories located in different parts of the country and evidently one of the largest photo laboratories across the country.
She is also the managing director of Practoil limited, one of the largest importers and distributors of base oil in Nigeria, meeting the needs of the local lubricant blending plants. She has also served on the on the board of Intercity Bank for over eight years. While on the board of the bank (now Unity Bank PLC), she served in different capacities on various board committees including the position of chairman of the bank’s establishment committee and the chairman and audit committee. She was also a member of the Audit and credit committees of the board of Unity Bank Plc.
She was the chairman, committee on economy, trade and investment at the 2014 national conference and is also a member of The New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD) business group Nigeria. She is currently being investigated by Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC), on the suspension of money laundering also involving Patience Jonathan, Nigeria’s former first lady.
She is married to Alhaji Shagaya, a Kwara State-based transport mogul. They have six children including - Sherif Shagaya, Hakeem Shagaya, Deeja Shagaya, Naieema Shagaya, Amaya Roberts Shagaya and Adeena Roberts Shagaya. She has been friends with past first ladies such as Maryam Babangida, Stella Obasanjo, Turai Yara’dua and Dame Patience Jonathan.
