Hon. Etaba attended Community Secondary School in Adiapum, Cross River State. He passed the National Examinations Council (NECO) in 2000. He proceeded to the University of Calabar, Cross River State and obtained a Bachelor's degree in Business Management.

Hon. Etaba has served as manager in various fields of business, petroleum industry, education, Niger Delta and other sectors. Prior to joining politics, he was the Chief Executive Officer of Good Future Oil Investment Limited.

In 2015, Hon. Etaba was elected to represent Obubra/Etung federal constituency of Cross River state in the House of Assembly. Elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Jon. Michael Etaba has been finding ways of delivering dividends of good governance to his people. He serves in the House Committee on Pensions.
