Hon Muhammed obtained the West African Senior Certificate (WASC) in 1977 from Barewa College Zaria, Kaduna State. He proceeded to the University of Abuja and bagged a diploma in banking and finance.

As a banker, Hon Mohammed worked at Afri Bank Nigeria Plc from 1986 to 2006. In 2011 he was appointed by the Kano State government as the Commissioner of Finance. He held that position until 2014.

In 2015 he was elected under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to represent Alabasu/Gaya/Ajingi Federal Constituency at the Federal House Representatives. He is a member of the House committee on finance.
