Gombe city is both a local government area and the capital city of Gombe state. Gombe city is the capital of the Gombe Emirate and the home of tribes such as the Fulani, Hausa and Bolewa. The city boasts an estimated population of about 892,750 inhabitants. The most widely spoken language is Hausa while Islam is the common religious affiliation in Gombe city. A number of markets are found within Gombe city and these include the Gombe city main market, Pantami market, Gombe old market, and the Tudun Hatsi grain market. These markets provide the platforms for the exchange of a variety of goods and services.
Gombe city also hosts several banks, industries, hotels, relaxation spots as well as privately and government owned institutions which add considerably to the economy of the town.
Gombe city has been the capital of Gombe state since the state was created in 1996.
