Opticom is a non-bank finance company licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria to provide finance and operating leases and other ancillary financial services. The company was incorporated as a limited liability company on December 29, 1998. The company was jointly promoted by UAC of Nigeria Plc, with 40% equity stake, NAL Merchant Bank Ltd (now Sterling Bank Plc) - with 35% and UNIC Insurance Plc - 25%. It's registered and operating address is 10th Floor UAC House, 1-5 Odunlami Street, Lagos.

A new group of investors acquired 100% ownership of the company in 2012 as its former owners took a strategic decision to divest from the Company and focus on their respective core businesses.

The primary business of the Company since inception is equipment leasing. The Company had traditionally targeted SMEs in the transportation, hospitality and newspaper publishing sectors which combined have historically accounted for over 90% of the Company’s portfolio.

Opticom Leasing intends to diversify its revenue stream as a major strategic intent and migrate from a mono-product Company to a multi-complementary product company within a 24-48 month period. The Company’s primary markets will remain its traditional SME segment while a future target market will be the ‘bankable’ retail segment. On an opportunistic basis, the company will target large corporate in the construction, cement, mining and Oil & Gas sectors subject to capacity. As the Company acquires capacity, it will seek to further expand into the more lucrative but capital intensive large corporate segment.
