Lagos Island

Lagos Island is one of the twenty LGAs in Lagos state, Southwest Nigeria and shares borders with the Eti-osa LGA. Districts that make up Lagos Island include Marina, Lewis street, Obalende, Ajele, and Freeman street. The LGA hosts the Lagos Island East Local Council Development Area. The LGA is in an urban and cosmopolitan area and hosts members of diverse ethnic affiliations. A variety of religious practices such as Christianity and Islam are pursued by the inhabitants of Lagos Island while the Yoruba and English languages are commonly spoken in the area. Notable landmarks in Lagos Island include the very serene Tinubu square and the imposing headquarters of the United Bank of Africa, Marina while important festivals held in the area include the Eyo festival.

Lagos Island LGA occupies a total area of 9 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 25 degrees centigrade. The total precipitation in the area is estimated at 2850 mm of rainfall per annum while the average wind speed in the LGA is put at 11 km/h.

ECONOMY OF LAGOS ISLAND

Lagos Island LGA hosts a number of hotels, banks, restaurants, relaxation spots, as well as government and privately owned institutions. The LGA also has a vibrant trade sector and hosts a number of markets such as the Obalende market where a wide variety of commodities are bought and sold.
