Raphael Viashima Ayagwa was born in Gboko, Gboko Local Government Area of Benue State, Nigeria on February 13th, 1998. He is a professional footballer who plays as a central midfielder for Plateau United and the Nigerian national team.

Growing up in Gboko, Ayagwa always wanted to play football, his mum however felt he was too small to play but his father stood by him. He supported him passionately and the rest of his family joined him. Ayagwa regulaly dedicates his achievements to his father who is now late.
Ayagwa began his career with his home club, Lobi Stars of Markurdi. After a successful time with Lobi which included two seasons in the Nigerian League, he joined League Champions Plateau United on October 15, 2017. In February 2018, he scored the only goal of the game that gave the Nigerian champions a 4-1 aggregate victory over Eding Sport Of Cameroon in the CAF Champions League.
Ayagwa came close to representing Nigeria at the U-20 level but that did not happen. He was however in the camp of the Flying Eagles team that won the African Championship in 2015. He was part of the home-based Eagles team that qualified Nigeria for the 2018 CHAN in Morocco, but was not part of the final squad for the tournament.
