Nse Ikpe-Etim was born in Lagos, Nigeria on October 21st, 1974 as the first of six children of Patrick Ikpe-Etim from Ikot Etobo in Nsit Ubium Local Government area, Akwa Ibom state.

Etim attended Awa Nursery School and Command Primary School in Kaduna State. She had her secondary school training in Federal Government College Jos, and Federal Government College Ilorin. She graduated from the University of Calabar with a Bachelor's degree in Theatre arts.
Nse started her acting career on stage while in the university, at the age of 18. She made her 1st TV appearance in the popular TV series ‘The Inheritance.’ She made a comeback and came into prominence in 2008 for her performance in the Emem Isong movie ‘Reloaded’ alongside Ramsey Nouah, Rita Dominic,Ini Edo and Desmond Elliot. Nse has also spoken at a TEDx event at Eastern Mediterranean University in May 2015.
On February 14th, 2013, the actress got married to her childhood friend, Clifford Sule, at a Lagos registry. She currently resides in London with her husband, a Senior Lecturer at Middlesex University who frequents Nigeria for film engagements.
Nse doesn’t think any celebrity is a role model. "I do not think any celebrity is a role model, my role model is my mother. I think that the family unit is where you should get everything you want,” she revealed in a 2014 interview with Pulse Nigeria.
In 2014, she won the Best Actress in a Drama award at the 2014 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards for portraying the character 'Nse' in 'Journey to Self.' She has also won other awards like Nigerian Entertainment Awards for Best Actress Film/Short Story (2010), 2012 Nollywood Movies Awards for Best Actress in a supporting Role (2012), Best of Nollywood Awards for Best lead actress in an English Movie (2012), Africa Magic viewers choice awards for Best actress in a Drama (2014), Best of Nollywood Awards for Best actress in a leading role (2015), golden icons academy movie awards for Best actress (2015), for Cyprus International University for Contribution to Youth Development (2015) and International achievements Recognition Awards for Best International Actress (2017).
