Eddy Chukwura Agbo was born in Mbu, a small village in the southeast of Nigeria. Eddy grew up in Mbu and studied Veterinary Medicine at the University of Ibadan, Oyo state. He also obtained a Master's degree in Biotechnology from Wageningen University and a Doctorate from Utrecht University in the Netherlands. He also obtained a Graduate Certificate in Leadership and Management in the Life Sciences from the John Hopkins University Business School in the United States.
Earlier in his career, Dr. Agbo held research and product development positions at ID-Lelystad, Utrecht University, Wageningen University and Free University Amsterdam, in the Netherlands. He is the lead inventor on pending genotyping and biomarker detection patents and author of numerous peer-reviewed scientific publications. He also invented the Urine Malaria Test (UMT), which helps the user find out if their feverish feeling has anything to do with malaria or not.
Dr. Agbo serves as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer at Fyodor Biotechnologies, Inc. which he founded in 2008. He also serves as Manager for Pre-clinical Operations at Cangen Biotechnologies, Inc. He oversees the development and management of ongoing preclinical studies, the translation of research to preclinical development and for guiding activities with external collaborators and contractors.
Eddy has over 14 years of direct biomedical research and molecular diagnostics product development experience, comprising 7 years in university research and over 7 years in industry. These include strong scientific and technical expertise in biomarker development and validation. He joined Cangen from Johns Hopkins Medical School where he served as a Research Scientist on the development and characterization of candidate biomarkers of infectivity using cutting-edge biochemistry and molecular biology techniques. He has also served on the Maryland Life Sciences Advisory Board and has published several top-tier scientific publications.
