Adebayo Ogunlesi

Adebayo "Bayo" O. Ogunlesi was born on December 20th, 1953, in his hometown of Makun, Sagamu in Ogun State, Nigeria to Theophilus Ogunlesi, who was the first Nigerian professor of medicine at the University of Ibadan, Oyo State. He is an investment banker, lawyer and businessman.

Ogunlesi grew up in Lagos where he attended primary and secondary schools. He obtained his Secondary School education from the prestigious King's College in Lagos. Thereafter, he moved to the United Kingdom where he obtained a B.A. with first class honors in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from Oxford University in London, England. After that he proceeded to Harvard Law School in 1979 and received a J.D. magna cum laude and an M.B.A. from the Harvard Business School, which he pursued simultaneously.

During his MBA at Harvard, Ogunlesi worked at a law firm in New York City, Cravath, Swaine & Moore. He was an attorney and summer associate at the firm. Three years later, he secured a job at the United States' Supreme Court with Associate Justice Thurgood Marshall as his law clerk. He worked there until 1981. In 1983, he was appointed as an advisor on Nigerian gas project by investment bank First Boston.

The Ogun State born lawyer also served as the Head of the Global Energy Group between 1997 and 2002. In 2002, he was appointed as the Global Head of CSFB investment Banking Division as well as a member of Credit Suisse’s Executive Board and Management Committee. Adebayo is also a businessman and is a pioneer member of Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP) which was launched in July 2006.

Ogunlesi has also served as an adviser to Nigerian governments. He was an informal adviser to former President Olusegun Obasanjo on privatisation and he still maintains ties with his homeland. He is a member of the District of Columbia Bar Association. He has also taught at the Yale School of Organization and Management and Harvard Law School and was once listed as a member of Donald Trump’s Strategic and Policy Forum in December 2016 where he served until August 16th, 2017.

Ogunlesi got married to Dr. Amelia Quist-Ogunlesi in 1985. She is a prominent optometrist born and bred in Britain. The marriage is blessed with two children. In 2012, Bayo was named as one of top ten Africans making waves in the business sector.
