Honourable Iboro Asuquo Ekanem was born in 1958. He is an indigene of the Ikono clan in Ikono Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. He is an engineer, businessman and politician who currently represents Ikono/Ini Federal Constituency of Akwa Ibom State at the Federal House of Representatives.

Honourable Ekanem attended Hope Waddell Training Institution Calabar, Cross River State, where he obtained his West African School Certificate (WAEC) in 1976. He proceeded to the Calabar Polytechnics where he obtained Higher National Diploma Certificate (HND) in Electricals in 1981. Thereafter, he attended his one year mandatory National Youth Service (NYSC).
At the end of his NYSC scheme, Honourable Ekanem began working as an electrical engineer contractor/ consultant. As a politician, he served as the Executive Chairman of the Ikono Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State. He also served as a Commissioner of Science and Technology in Akwa Ibom State.
In 2015, Honourabe Ekanem contested in the general elections where he was elected as a member presenting the Ikono/ Ini Federal Constituency of Akwa Ibom State in the Federal House of Representatives under the platform of the People's Democratic Party (PDP). His legislative interests include creating legislations that bring about good governance for sustainable peace, unity, human capacity and structural development. He hopes to ensure that his constituency benefits from the dividends of democracy.
