Bauchi City

Bauchi city is the capital of Bauchi state located in the NorthEast geopolitical zone of Nigeria. The major tribes are the Hausa and Fulani and the predominant language spoken in Bauchi is Hausa. The city’s population is estimated at 1,456, 548 inhabitants and Islam is the predominant faith. GEOGRAPHY

Bauchi city is situated on the Northern edge of the Jos Plateau at an estimated elevation of 617 metres. The city falls under the tropical savannah climate and has an estimated annual precipitation of 950mm with an average temperature of 32 degrees centigrade.

ECONOMY

Agriculture and commerce are the greatest contributors to Bauchi city’s economy with crops such as millet, rice and maize grown in substantial quantities. A number of domestic animals are also reared and sold in Bauchi.

Also, markets such as the Wunti, Bauchi Central market, Army Barracks Mammy market, and the Muda Lawal market are key commercial centers and add favorably to the city's economy. Several banks, hotels, relaxation spots, industries as well as government and privately owned institutions are situated in Bauchi city. 

HISTORY

Bauchi city was founded by Yaqub Ibn dadi and is named after a hunter called Baushe who advised Yaqub to erect his city west of the warinje mountains. In order to honor and appreciate Baushe, Yaqub named his city after him.
