About Umuahia North Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Umuahia North local government area is domiciled in Abia state, South-east geopoliticalwnclave of Nigeria. The headquarters of the LGA are in the town of Umuahia and the LGA comprises of several districts and streets which include Mission hill, Oba Street, Francis Ibiam Avenue, Warri Street, Item Street, Awolowo Street, and Umuawa Alaocha. The estimated population of Umuahia North LGA is put at 275,619 inhabitants with the area majorly occupied by members of the Igbo ethnic group. The Igbo language is commonly spoken in the LGA while the religion of Christianity is extensively practiced in the area. Notable landmarks in Umuahia North LGA include the De Mecks Supermarket and the popular Timber Shed.

Umuahia North LGA occupies a total area of 245 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 27 degrees centigrade. The LGA witnesses two major seasons which are the dry and the rainy seasons with the average wind speed in the area put at 11 km/h.


ECONOMY OF UMUAHIA NORTH

Umuahia North LGA has a viable trade sector and the area hosts a number of markets such as the Ubani main market and the Industrial market in Azueke Ndume Ibeku which attract a multitude of buyers and sellers of different commodities. The LGA also hosts a number of banks, hotels, industries, as well as government owned establishments.

Umuahia North LGA was created in August 1991.
