The Hassan Usman Katsina Polytechnic came into being following the splitting of Katsina College of Art, Science and Technology (First established in 1973) into two autonomous colleges; Katsina Polytechnic, Katsina and College of Advanced Studies, Zaria. Hassan Usman Katsina Polytechnic was established in 1973, initially as a College of Arts and Science. It is now owned by Katsina State Government.

Hassan Usman Katsina Polytechnic is a state polytechnic higher education institution located at Dutsinma Road in Katsina State, Nigeria. It currently has six colleges which are: College of Admin and Management studies, College of Enviromental Studies, College of Basic and Remedies Studies, College of Engineering and College of Agriculture. It offers both part time and full time programs. 

Hassan Usman Katsina Polytechnic (HUKP) was ranked among the top 38 schools in Nigeria according to The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE). HUKP is accredited by the Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English, a professional body of Science Technologists, under the supervision of the Nigerian Ministry of Science and Technology.
